A ex-military leader of the the nation's space operations center will report back next month on how the government-funded institute can most effectively assist the scale of government AI ambitions in defense, national security and intelligence.
Strategic Realignment
The center's head, a ex-Amazon UK executive, confirmed that 78 different research projects at the center employing hundreds have been terminated, spun out or completed because they aren't consistent with the new direction.
Workplace Issues
The organization has faced organizational challenges since last year as staff protested against reforms, culminating in a group of employees submitting a formal grievance to the proper supervisory commission.
The organization's management stated that these staff complaints were externally examined by a neutral third party that found them to have lack merit.

Researchers will develop ways to use the quickly-evolving systems to more rapidly and accurately forecast changes in climate conditions, marine environments and arctic coverage, partly to better inform government emergency planners.
