Antony Price, the influential style architect responsible for some of the most iconic looks associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, such as the light-hued ensembles that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's seminal music video for "Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

His passing follows shortly after he unveiled his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in shaping sculptural silhouettes established him as a "true original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he began working on pieces for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including a number of outfits for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Performative Style: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

Design circles says farewell to a authentic original whose impact on the visual landscape of music remains deeply ingrained.
