Nearly twenty-five thousand households in southeastern Queensland were left lacking electricity on Monday morning after powerful weather events passed over the area, producing wind gusts topping 109 kilometers per hour.

Large Hailstones and Widespread Damage

Homeowners observed large ice chunks as large as seven centimeters in certain regions. Meteorological experts confirmed that different parts across the state had been hit with substantial ice precipitation.

Response teams were working to restore electricity service throughout the impacted areas, with nearly 70 crews activated to handle the numerous electricity disruptions.

Southern State's Storm Challenges

Simultaneously, approximately 1,000 households in the southern state also encountered electricity disruptions after the capital city recorded its wettest day in a year and a half.

Emergency response teams received over five hundred requests for assistance across the area, primarily for structural issues but also for downed trees and flooding.

Hardest Hit Locations

• The Werribee area - saw substantial storm damage
• Hoppers Crossing - multiple assistance requests
• Wyndham area - nearly 180 emergency requests

At one point on the previous day, more than 28,000 electricity consumers in the state were experiencing outages.

Climate Outlook

Humid circumstances were expected to linger along much of eastern Queensland this coming days as a low-pressure trough continued to attract humidity against the shoreline.

Tuesday was predicted as the wettest day, with continued storm activity expected across various areas of both regions.

Medical Alert

Public health experts warned that there was an greater possibility of weather-related respiratory issues across the northern rural areas, especially given the ongoing climate situation.

This caution comes after past events where comparable situations led to major medical consequences in the state.
