Manchester United Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL side.
Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack
The experienced striker's signing should represent a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
