A popular South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a country struggling with entrenched crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was attacked in the downtown area on a Tuesday afternoon.

Officials stated the forty-year-old media personality was confronted by a trio of assailants, one of whom opened fire on him before running away.

The reason behind the incident remains unclear and no suspects have been apprehended have taken place, police said.

The Fatal Incident

Authorities indicated that Stock was ambushed as he was departing from a location near the city center landmark.

He had been present for hours at the building managing the setup of safety equipment, which had been illegally inhabited by unknown people, it was reported.

"It is alleged the victim was confronted by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they opened fire at him before running from the location on foot," a police statement said.

Surveillance tape reportedly depicted a individual with dreadlocks and wearing what looked like a security uniform shooting on Stock before making his escape.

The DJ sought to escape after he was wounded but collapsed on the opposite side of the road.
