The President Welcomes Loved Ones of Shot Military Soldiers to the Presidential Residence
Former President Trump announced on Sunday that he has invited the family of a Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the White House.
He mentioned that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Tragic Incident
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a violent incident on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have occurred in their remembrance.
Presidential Call
The commander-in-chief stated he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the parents of both members of the state Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump addressed the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Reaction
Mourners assembled over the weekend at Webster County high school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to aid law enforcement in DC.
Remembering the Soldier
“Sarah was the kind of student that teachers desired. She carried herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged people around her,” Hankins, the principal of her alma mater, told the media. “She was sweet, caring and always willing to help others.”
Memorial details for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Judicial Actions and Policy Changes
Authorities have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The incident led the government to suspend refugee claims and temporarily stop issuing visas to holders of Afghan passports.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, per the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey mentioned on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed the program that she planned to visit the family.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from her high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a law enforcement officer with honor, as stated by the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had fortitude,” he addressed the crowd at the service. “Though her time ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
